Forever Friday

With Covid-19 ramping up, we decided to stay isolated in Cocoa for as long as we could prior to our boat delivery. Thank God we had Parker & Leslie on Scaliwag with us. Leslie was my walking partner. We got grocery deliveries and took turns doing dinners. Was also wonderful to have another boat upon which to spend an evening (they were right behind us). We played a LOT of dominoes and cards. Spring Break was in full swing in Fort Lauderdale. We were advised again that the ship date for our boat was going to be later in the month. So, we got the hell out of dodge! It is remarkable how many homes and boats fly Trump flags here. One does not see this in Southern California. Did a short ~20 miles in rainy weather, and dropped the hook in Delray Beach. Were so bummed the kids had go to back home. Was wonderful having them. While we were in Cocoa, my cousin’s mother in law June picked us up and showed us around where she grew up. Had lunch at a cool joint along the St. John River. Airboats and gators abound. Later that day, June and Russ hosted us again at their lovely home. (We came through here last here.) We hung out in Sunrise Bay anchorage for a bit. Great anchorage with easy access to shore. Met lots of great people, and had some wonderful sunsets. We had one last East coast rendezvous with Kent, Heather and Penny of Heartbeat before they were taking off for the Bahamas. We dinghied over to the park and walked to the bar there for a beer. The weather leading up to Christmas was windy and rainy. We took walks when there were breaks in the weather, and hit the gym at the adjacent hotel. The Sunday night/Monday morning before Christmas brought tornado warnings and torrential rain and wind. Fort Lauderdale Airport was shut down for a few hours. Had a beautiful trip across Tampa Bay and down the GICW. Dropped the hook at Pelican Bay adjacent to Cayo Costa State Park. Beautiful area we went through last year. Had a lovely stay in Redington Shores. One day, we walked down to Madeira Beach to watch some live music. We came here last year and enjoyed it. Lots of eateries and bars one can go via dinghy. Live music and cold beer everywhere. The Monday before Thanksgiving, we departed for St. Petersburg. Had a beautiful trip down the ICW and into Tampa Bay. St. Pete is lovely from the water. The trip across Mobile Bay was wonderful. Was so great seeing dolphins again. Sailed past LuLu’s in Gulf Shores where we stayed last year. Made it to The Wharf in Orange Beach, FL after a beautiful 61 mile run. Unfortunately, had to fill up: Had been at anchor for a while, so we were really looking forward to walking and eating out. Departed November 3 after heavy fog lifted. While in Fulton Lock, had to wait for 4 additional boats. Made an egg and cheese sandwich for the lockmaster. Lovely day on the water. More locks and more miles. As we entered Aberdeen Lock, YOLO advised us of a huge log in the chamber.
