Labor Day on Lake Barkley, KY

Labor Day on Lake Barkley, KY

Here’s an interesting little bit of trivia:

Did you know more people climb Mount Everest each year than complete America’s Great Loop?

Mike here:

Here it is, Labor Day 2018, and I just noticed Mary has not updated this blog for 3 days!  Saaaay what?  We told friends and family that our postings would be a tad, well…sporadic–until we actually got underway on the loop.  But 3 days?  Really?

Ok, we may not be underway “officially,” but we’re still having fun, day to day, mostly dinking around in our new console.  We are observing the “break-in” period, in which we have to keep the throttle south of 3/4 for the first 10 hours, then have the oil & lower unit fluid changed…then we’re good to go.    Dinking around Lake Barkley is simply stunning…deep blue skies, bright white scattered clouds, and warm…very warm.

On Sunday we began exploring some of the many coves just below our marina (Green Turtle Bay).  While Lake Barkley has tons of coves and anchorages, Kentucky Lake has all that–on steroids.  There are literally hundreds of really nice places to anchor all the way down the lake and throughout the Tennessee River…we will visit that area soon!

Putting more break-in time on the dink, we went cruised over to near Lake Barkley Lock, where we rafted up with our slip neighbors who were anchored in their Carver 32 “Off Duty,” along with two of their friends’ boats.   You KNOW the water is warm if yours truly is in it!

Tomorrow we have a date with the marine electrician, Justin, who appears to be a well sought after craftsman in these here parts.  People around here think so highly of him, that they would actually fly him to wherever they were experiencing their problems…After our radar, AIS & GPS antennas, anchor light & hailer horn are reinstalled, we can go cruising.  If all goes as planned we will leave Wednesday morning and make our way to Nashville.  We plan a nice, slow trip, anchoring for the night in a couple spots & then visiting Rock Harbor marina on the outskirts of Nashville.

Stay tuned for Mary’s post tomorrow!
