Elbow Cay to Great Guana Cay to Treasure Cay
Departed last Sunday for Great Guana Cay on a beautiful, sunny day. Sailed past Tautug, a Nordhavn 43 we had berthed with at Cape Eleuthera. Got a lovely shot of her with the Hopetown Lighthouse in the background.
Sailed past some beautiful cays.
Dropped the hook off Grabbers, hopped in the dinghy and went in.
Walked to the infamous Nippers bar. As we approached, passed about 30 golf carts… Hmmm…I thought this was supposed to be a bar for cruisers. Ordered a beer and their daily, machine frozen drink, paid our $20. Walked out to the Atlantic Ocean side, which was beautiful.
Other than that, the bar was like a scene from a Vegas pool with the thumping music and crowds and totally not our scene, so we took our overpriced drinks and walked out. Ended up stopping at a street side bar that apparently had a kitchen in the back and had a great lunch. Mike had conch salad, and I had Souse Chicken…a Bahamian soup. Happy Hour is all day here, so our beers were 1/2 the price of Nippers.
Headed back to FF, picked up anchor and sailed to Treasure Cay. Dropped the hook and were treated to a beautiful night at anchor by ourselves.
Awoke to stunning skies!
Weather was coming later that night, so we tucked into Treasure Cay Resort Marina where we reconnected with Heartbeat. Tuesday, it was super rainy and windy so we were all pretty boat bound.
Got laundry done (the wonderful ladies here fold it for you!), and some minor provisioning. Kent & Heather had friends visiting from Portland who were scheduled to fly home Tuesday. Their flight to the States was delayed a couple times, then ultimately cancelled. They couldn’t get a return flight until today. Not the worst place to be stuck! Tuesday night, we hosted pizza night on FF–Mike & I made 2 pies, while Heather prepared 2 on Heartbeat and brought over to cook on FF (our propane cooks pizza a bit better than their electric stove). The six of us ended the night with a raucous game of CAH which Mike and I won.
Yesterday, we did more boat chores, and took a long walk. The beach across the street is one of the most beautiful I have seen. At low tide yesterday, you could walk quite a ways on a sand spit with some incredible views.
Lovely day at the beach. Had a family cruising with their 5 and 7 year old kids over to the boat (S/V Magnolia out of Atlanta, GA).
Was talking to my dad last night and he told my my niece Morgan’s water broke yesterday! Stayed up until past midnight to find out Taylor Elizabeth Rigsbee was born last night at 8:43pm PST!!! She and mom are healthy, and I’m so elated! Happy birthday to Taylor!
Another wonderful thing to happen this week is the arrival of our youngest son, Daniel. He is flying into Marsh Harbour this afternoon to spend a long weekend with us on the boat! We’re renting a car to hit a grocer and pick him up from the airport. His price of admission is writing the next blog as a guest blogger (he doesn’t know this yet…)
In the spirit of recent St. Patrick’s Day, and the coming of Spring: May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, and Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His Hand. <Inserted by Mike: “…and may you be 30 minutes in Heaven before the Devil knows you’re dead.”>
Cheers! M&M
