Bimini is done!

Bimini is done!

So, we have been awaiting the finishing of our bimini for the upper deck.  For non-boaters, this will bore the hell out of you.  I initially didn’t want a bimini, nor the price tag that came with it.  After sweltering in the Kentucky and Tennessee heat, I’m more that welcoming this beautiful addition!  It does change the lines of our girl for the worse I think, but we can fold it down.  Mark, the fabricator, did a bimini and some sun panels for our friends on Heartbeat, so we got to see his work beforehand.  It’s excellent.  Mark made us a side panel that we can zipper into either the Port or Starboard side.  Also made us a panel to zipper in the rear.  These will come in handy in the Bahamas for sure!

Our “old” look is preserved with bimini down & covered.

Mark finished this, and our dingy console cover (keep weather off of the steering, throttle, and seat), yesterday which was appropriate as it was our anniversary.  Mike made biscuits and gravy for brekkie because he’s awesome like that.  And, we are in the south.

It poured rain all day, so we were boat bound.  What do you do when you’re stuck in the boat?  Make boat drinks!

Walked in our foulies under umbrella to the yacht club for a wonderful dinner.  Came back to the boat and danced with the Party Power Ball.

The people on our dock probably cannot wait for the freaky Californians to leave.

There are about 15 boats here that are currently doing the Great Loop.  Have met and had docktails with many of them.  Super fun stories, and some scary ones too.  The trip down the Mississippi and Ohio for them absolutely sucked due to the current and debris.  And, night before last, the Barkley Lock was broken and 7 boats got stuck there for hours.  We have some weather for the next few days, so are tentatively scheduled to leave Wednesday to head south.  Fingers crossed.

  1. Great that you got the Bimini. Shade trumps boat lines any day! Your boat will thank you too. Im staying alive so I can read your blogs, so keep them coming. They mean a lot. Keep having fun.

    1. We will definitely keep them coming then, Señor Hugo! Agree with you re the shade…less direct sun is always welcome & healthy. I dropped it all down on the stern rail yesterday & covered it up with it’s “boot.” Since the weather appears to have more or less “turned the corner” here, I figure we may not actually need it for a couple months (until we’re in S. Florida. I imagine it will take about 10-15 mins to put it back up. Miss you both!

  2. I think it will be a great addition especially in the southern states. Our AT 34 doesn’t have one yet, but its on our bucket list!
We are looking for window covers for our pilot house. Any thoughts?

    1. Hi Mark!
Whomever you go have do the work, we would recommend you have the bridge window coverings (with exception of forward windshield) installed on the inside with a see-through mesh. The installer can remove screws at top & bottom and replace with snaps that mate with the covers. They stay infinitely cleaner when installed on the inside of boat.
      Good luck!
