Elbow Cay to Great Guana Cay to Treasure Cay

Elbow Cay to Great Guana Cay to Treasure Cay

Departed last Sunday for Great Guana Cay on a beautiful, sunny day. Sailed past Tautug, a Nordhavn 43 we had berthed with at Cape Eleuthera. Got a lovely shot of her with the Hopetown Lighthouse in the background. Sailed past some beautiful cays. Dropped the hook off Grabbers, hopped in the dinghy and went in. Walked to the infamous Nippers bar. As we approached, passed about 30 golf carts… Hmmm…I thought this was supposed to be a bar for cruisers….

Cape Eleuthera to Alibaster Cove, Eleuthera to Spanish Wells to Little Harbour, Abacos to Lynyard Cay, Abacos to Tahiti Beach, Abacos

Robin, from The Lower Place, and I walked to the Island School on Eleuthera. We had heard a lot of great things about this school and wanted to check it out. I called to see if they were an “open” campus. The gal on the phone had no idea what I was talking about. She said to come on by and come up to the office. We did and were met by a gal who gave us a wonderful tour…

Palm Cay to Allan’s Cay to Exuma Cay Land and Sea Park to Shroud Cay to Cape Eleuthera

Palm Cay to Allan’s Cay to Exuma Cay Land and Sea Park to Shroud Cay to Cape Eleuthera

Last Wednesday, against my recommendation, we departed Palm Cay (New Providence Island-south of Nassau) ~ noon to cross to the Exumas. We only had about 35 miles to go, but my most accurate marine weather forecast, Buoy Weather, called for some nasty wind and seas. Three other forecasts were much more mild. Alas, it was an absolutely shitty trip. We arrived at Allan’s Cay before sunset and dropped the hook. Wind was still howling, but we were mostly protected with…

Bimini to Chub Cay to Palm Cay, Bahamas

Bimini to Chub Cay to Palm Cay, Bahamas

Our last two days in Bimini were spent doing laundry ($22 for 2 loads), provisioning, walking, eating and drinking. The supply boat was scheduled to come in Thursday morning. Alas, it came in late Thursday and didn’t unload until Friday. Friday, we scored on some fresh fruit and veggies! Not finding ripe bananas, Mike made zucchini bread for our BFF bartender, Danny, and the dude at the grocery store who balked when Mike told him he could make bread with…

Key Largo, FL to Bimini, Bahamas

Key Largo, FL to Bimini, Bahamas

Pulled up anchor last Saturday morning at 6:50 to beautiful skies and calm seas. Followed The Lower Place through Angelfish Cut out into the mighty Atlantic. Was a stunning morning. We had a beautiful crossing with excellent conditions. ~ 7 & 1/2 hours later, arrived Bimini Sands Resort! About a mile out, we put up our quarantine flag. Upon entering a foreign country, you have to fly a quarantine flag during which time the captain of the vessel brings the…

More Ft Lauderdale; Ft Lauderdale to Key Largo

Mike wasted no time relinquishing his blogging duties once I got back to the boat! I got in very late the night of Feb 5. The next day, we utilized the rental car Mike got to pick me up and ran a bunch of errands and provisioned. Although I miss my family, it was nice to get back to warm weather; So Cal was rainy and cold! Thursday, we, along with Jay and Barbara from The Blessing, took a long…

Fort Lauderdale to…Fort Lauderdale?

Fort Lauderdale to…Fort Lauderdale?

Mike here once again. Greetings from Forever Friday, still berthed at Las Olas Marina, Fort Lauderdale. Mary flew back home to So Cal on January 15th so she could assist her siblings with their mom who had suffered a medical emergency. She (mom) is getting better, day by day, but is facing a lengthy recovery. Mary returns to the boat (and her lonesome husband) this coming Tuesday. Later next week–if the stars & planets align–we will cross over to the…

Islamorada to Key Largo, to Miami, to Fort Lauderdale

***Note: This issue is written by Mike…so kindly give Mary some slack for my errors and indiscretions… Forever Friday departed Marathon on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:30 AM. We set out for somewhere near Islamorada, about 30 miles to the north. I said “somewhere” because we weren’t quite sure where we were going to anchor, but knew we wanted to continue our sojourn northward. As you’ve no doubt gleaned from our prior posts, we usually prefer to anchor when…

Marathon, FL and Key West, FL

We had a great New Years Eve. Mike and I grabbed a dock cart and walked the 1/4 mile to Public and did a huge provision. Later, with Kent and Heather, we took a cab to The Lighthouse Grill at Faro Blanco Resort & Marina. Met up with a bunch of other boaters many with whom we have previously broken bread on this trip. Many folks stay a month or more down here, or leave their boats here while they…

Marco Island, FL to Russell Pass, FL to Everglades City, FL to Marathon Key, FL

Departed Smokehouse Bay @ 10:40am December 23. Some good swells out in the Gulf outside Marco Pass. Marco Island beach is beautiful. We ultimately turned West and had a nice following sea. The last hour, our sea was super calm. We pulled into the channel toward Everglades City and went past an island with a ton of white pelicans. This area is part of the Ten Thousand Islands, and is gorgeous. We went to Russell Pass and dropped the anchor….
